Hawthorn Avenue Works Update
Mawsley Parish Council have escalated the concerns of our residents about the delayed surfacing works on Hawthorn Avenue, Hares Run and Badgers Lane. The roads and pavements are unlevel and unsafe and it is not acceptable that our residents are having to live with that.
I have today received an email from the Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey East Midlands. Please see below for a summary of the email:
''I understand the frustration and inconvenience that residents have experienced, and I sincerely apologise for the extended delays and the current condition of the pavements and roads. The situation you describe, particularly regarding residents with mobility needs and safety concerns, is clearly unacceptable and requires urgent attention. The road adoption works involve multiple stages with different specialist subcontractors. Unfortunately, the project was significantly delayed when our contractor encountered serious financial difficulties (due to non-payment issues with another developer) partway through the process. This resulted in works being suspended for several months while we resolved these contractual issues. The works recommenced in late July 2025 and have now progressed to the final stage, which is surfacing. We had expected this surfacing work, organised through our groundworks contractor, to be completed in early September. However, we discovered a couple of weeks ago that it had not been properly scheduled by the surfacing contractor. The surfacing work is now scheduled for mid-October 2025. While we understand this represents yet another delay, changing surfacing contractors at this late stage would, unfortunately, result in even further delays to completion.I take the health and safety concerns you've raised extremely seriously. Our Adoptions Manager will be conducting an inspection of the roads as soon as possible to identify any unsafe conditions, and will arrange for urgent remedial action where required.Regarding the faulty street light on Hares Run, I can confirm this repair has already been booked with our contractors and will be addressed. We will fit a temporary head on this streetlight in the meantime.I hope this reassures you of our commitment to ensuring these works are completed to the required standard as quickly as possible. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any further concerns or require additional information''Please be assured that the parish council will continue to support our residents with this issue and we will be monitoring the situation closely.Posted: Thu, 25 Sep 2025
