The Precept is the element of your Council Tax that is paid to Mawsley Parish Council.

Every year, the Parish Council draws up a budget and calculates how much money it needs for the next Financial Year. This is then submitted to North Northants Council. ( NNC)

The budget for the financial year 2023-2024 has now been approved and the precept demand has been sent to North Northants Council. After much discussion Councillors agreed to a budget of £92,064.00 this will be funded in the main by the precept which will be increased from £70,000 to £92,000. Councillors agreed, after much discussion to raise the precept in order to pay for energy saving improvements to TCAM. There is alot of concern that the energy bills for the centre are due to increase during 2023-2024 and this will put a huge strain on the centre finances. The amount of increase to the parish council portion of the council tax bill is approx 30% which initially seems quite high, however this equates to an average rise on a band D property of .45p per week.

During the months of November and December the Parish Council discuss and agree the budget for the coming financial year, the financial year runs from April 1st to March 31st.

The budget is agreed in the December or January meeting and the precept is then agreed by January. The council have to agree how much of the budget is financed by the precept and how much is financed by other means, such as reserve funds.
